A Dive into the Past and Ourselves

Updated: Apr 10

My fascination with tracing my roots has always been more than a hobby; it's a personal journey into humanity's collective migration saga and individual stories of resilience and hope.

Like many, my lineage weaves through the tapestry of history, with ancestors migrating to Brazil from Europe in the late 19th century, seeking new horizons.

In 2015, I embarked on a meticulous quest to gather documentation for my dual citizenship application, a process that turned into a profound exploration of my heritage. The endeavor was challenging; earlier attempts by relatives in the 80s met with the barriers of the pre-digital era. Lost documents, language barriers, and the 'tropicalization' of names severed many from their past. Yet, driven by curiosity and the vast resources at our fingertips, I uncovered fascinating chapters of my story.

The Immigration Museum of the State of São Paulo (https://lnkd.in/dd7zyGad) and FamilySearch (https://lnkd.in/dd9B5gdV) proved invaluable in this quest.

Recently, delving again into FamilySearch, I found new facilitating resources and unveiled branches of my family tree stretching back five generations and stumbled upon intriguing family facts.

I believe in thinking of our past as a way to understand the present and project the future. Understanding our roots indeed embarks us on a captivating journey of self-discovery. Why not dedicate some time this weekend to exploring these rich sources of personal history?
